Guided tour of the Church of San Lucio in Cavargna

Sunday, August 16, 2026 the Friends of Cavargna invite to a guided tour of the Church of San Lucio, the Alpine sanctuary symbol of the Cavargna Valley, nestled on the pass of the same name on the border between Italy and Switzerland, above Cavargna.

The visit will be led by restorer Paola Villa, which will guide participants to discover the history of the church and the restoration supervised by her, an intervention that has enhanced its artistic heritage. The visit will also be enriched by an intervention by Don Vincenzo, parish priest of the Valley.

Two visiting shifts

• First round: 2:30 PM
• Second round: 4:00 PM

La participation is free, with a free offering in support of the Valley Museum of Cavargna. The Reservation is required via email to amicidelmuseocavargna@gmail.com.

The Church of San Lucio

The church stands in a spectacular position at San Lucio Pass, on the ridge that separates the Cavargna Valley from the Swiss Val Colla: a place of popular devotion linked to Saint Lucius, protector of mountaineers and cheesemakers, a destination of pilgrimages from both sides of the border for centuries.

The sanctuary can be reached only on foot, along the paths that go up from Cavargna or from Cava Pass above Buggiolo, a hamlet of Rezzo Valley: a perfect opportunity to combine the visit with a walk at high altitude, for example along the route of the Mount Garzirola, which hits the pass. Hiking shoes and clothing are recommended.
