Description

The review Valsolda in Music bring the Gently Choir in concert Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 9:00 PM, In the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of Caravina in Cressogno, in Valsolda. Free admission.

An evening of choral music in one of the most evocative settings of the Lake Ceresio: the Marian sanctuary overlooking the water, among cypress and olive trees, on the edge of Valsolda.

The Gently Choir

The Gently Choir Appiano Gentile is a young group, born from the desire to sing together, with a collective sound that intertwines classical harmonies and modern arrangements. The choir has already been a protagonist in the area: last May it performed in Claino con Osteno in concert in honor of Pellegrino Tibaldi and the rediscovered frescoes.

Conducted by Maestro Massimo Mazza

The Maestro on the podium Massimo Mazza (Rho, 1981), graduated in percussion from the Verdi Conservatory of Milan. Choral director since 1999, he leads, among others, In Laetitia Chorus, InControCanto di Vimercate, and the choir of the G. Pasta High School in Como, with which he has won numerous first prizes in national and international competitions.

The Sanctuary of Caravina

The sanctuary is one of the most famous Marian places on the Italian side of the Lake Ceresio. Its origins date back to 1562, when—according to tradition—the image of Our Lady of Sorrows, kept in a country chapel, was seen weeping. This attracted the attention of Saint Charles Borromeo, who ordered canonical verification and ordered the construction of the sanctuary. The building, enlarged in the 17th century, preserves stuccoes, frescoes, and paintings that make it a treasure trove of Baroque art, in a panoramic position suspended over the lake. Antonio Fogazzaro also praised its beauty in his "Piccolo mondo antico," set in Valsolda.
