Description

A Pristine Ecosystem in Western Lombardy

Welcome to the Valsolda Regional Forest, a hidden gem located in western Lombardy, in the municipality of the same name. This nature reserve is an extraordinary experience for nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts.

The Valsolda Regional Forest is Lombardy's first strict nature reserve, covering a total area of 318 hectares. Its beauty is made unique by the alternating spires, rocky pinnacles, ravines, dense forests, and clear streams. Life here unfolds in all its splendor, with the presence of alpine fauna such as deer, roe deer, chamois, badgers, foxes, and birds of prey such as eagles, buzzards, sparrowhawks, falcons, and countless other species.

The Valsolda Regional Forest extends across the limestone Prealps of Lombardy and is located in the Valli del Lario e del Ceresio Mountain Community, in the municipality of Valsolda (CO). This natural wonder covers a wide range of altitudes, from 700 meters in the Soldo Valley to 1,810 meters on Cima Fiorina, on the border with Switzerland.

In 2007, it was declared a Nature Reserve, including two protection regimes:

Oriented Nature Reserve: This part of the reserve, which covers approximately 90 hectares, is open to visitors. Here, you can explore three themed trails, including:

  • “The Wildlife Trail”
  • “The Street of Songs”
  • “The Path in the Rock”

These trails offer sustainable tourist and educational-cultural experiences.

Integral Nature Reserve: This large portion of the reserve, approximately 228 hectares, is dedicated to scientific research and vegetation monitoring without human disturbance.

Thematic Itineraries

This themed trail, accompanied by eight information panels, will guide you through the area's geological and geomorphological features. A longer and more scenic variant will take you through the "Integrale" part of the Reserve, offering additional spectacular views.

The “Oriented” part of the Reserve offers two educational trails:

The Wildlife Trail: will allow you to discover the local fauna

The Street of Songs: perfect for bird lovers and birdwatchers
