After summer, when the boats thin out and the shores are reunited with residents, the valleys leading down to the lake are adorned with the most beautiful colors of the year. It&#039;s a mid-mountain foliage experience, intimate and serene, far removed from crowded destinations: here, the woods are traversed in silence, often without encountering anyone, with the lake occasionally appearing between the trees.<\/p>\n\n<p>Those who climb along the paths cross, altitude after altitude, different forests - a natural staircase typical of the Lepontine Prealps. Lower down, along the banks and on the first slopes, the <strong>oak groves<\/strong> and above all the <strong>chestnut trees<\/strong>, which man has cultivated for centuries and which in autumn spread their carpet of burrs on the ground. Going up into the mountain range the scene changes to the <strong>beech forest<\/strong>, accompanied by <strong>hornbeams<\/strong>, <strong>ash trees<\/strong> and maples: this is where the foliage is at its best, with the beech leaves turning a deep coppery gold. In autumn, chestnuts return to the forefront of tables and ovens, in soups, desserts and traditional dishes, and are revived in <strong>chestnuts<\/strong> that enliven the local villages: village festivals where roasted chestnuts are paired with new wine, the simplest and most authentic way to celebrate the arrival of the cold season. These are community-based events, away from the crowds, where you can breathe in the authentic autumn of the valleys.<\/p>\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"I_sapori_dautunno_nei_ristoranti_e_nei_crotti\"><\/span>The flavors of autumn in restaurants and grottos<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p>Chestnuts are just the beginning. With the shortening days and the first cold breezes, the rhythm of the valleys changes. Sunset arrives early and paints the lake orange; the villages gather around fireplaces; the slow-cooked flavors of mountain cuisine return to restaurants. It&#039;s the season when you don&#039;t come to see everything, but to stay: a morning walk, a chestnut feast in the afternoon, a hot meal in the evening. Lake Ceresio, in autumn, doesn&#039;t ask you to rush.
