Description
Friday October 16, 2026, at 9:00 PM there Carlazzo Municipal Library The season of themed evenings reopens with the presentation of Relics, the signed book Masce & Masce — the sisters Elisa e Agnese Mascellani, who will be in the room to tell it.
The book
Relics It's a book that's difficult to pigeonhole: novel, essay, and guide to the area coexist in the same pages. The plot begins with theft of some sacred relics, a fact that triggers the story and which at the same time functions as a metaphor — because the relics of the title are not only the stolen object, but everything that remains, is consumed or disappears of a place: the characters, the stories, the words of the dialect.
The real protagonist is the Menaggio Valley, enclosed between two mountain slopes and overlooking three bodies of water — the lakes of Como, Of Floor and of Lugano — with the small town of Gottro as the epicenter of the story. The authors observe it as if it were an anthropological laboratory: a past of peasantry and emigration that has never fully passed, a present of cross-border commuting and predominantly Northern European tourism, a future yet to be written. The questions that run through the book are those that every border valley carries with it: what remains, what is lost, what is worth keeping.
Alongside the narration, the volume collects short stories, themed chapters and a recipe book, also treated as artefacts: pieces of a material culture that is preserved by telling its story. Relics is published by Youcanprint in August 2026.
