Description

Friday October 9, 2026, at 8:30 PM there Library of Grandola ed Uniti hosts Alessandro Soresini, president of the association History, Nature and Life, for a trip to the Great International Exhibition of Milan of 1906. An evening built on images — emotions, lights, atmospheres: a journey through images, as the subtitle of the volume from which the story takes its cue says.

Milan 1906

The 1906 International Exposition was the event that established Milan as the country's industrial capital: pavilions, electric lights, machinery, and transportation pavilions were set up between Sempione Park and Piazza d'Armi to celebrate the opening of the Simplon Tunnel, the rail link that shortened the distance between Italy and Northern Europe. Millions of visitors traversed those avenues in just a few months, in what was a grand showcase of an Italy discovering its modernity.

Alessandro Soresini reconstructs that period through postcards, photographs, and period posters: an iconographic heritage that recounts not only the ephemeral architecture of the pavilions, but also the way people of the time looked to the future.

The evening

The meeting is held at the Grandola ed Uniti Library, in Piazza Luigi Camozzi 1, and is organised in collaboration with the Municipality of Grandola ed Uniti. The library's program of cultural evenings dedicated to the history of the area and its ties to Milan and the world beyond the Alps continues.
